ABSTRACT

This is a laboratory investigations of 52 patients attending Amal hospital Ungwar Muazu that gave their consent and were enrolled for 28 days clinical trials on the comparative analysis of the effectiveness of CQ and AL in the treatment of uncomplicated malaria fever among children between 1 to 12 years. These 52 patients were randomized into two study groups on their first day (D0) in the hospital to receive four doses of (CQ) for 3 days versus 6 doses regimen of (AL) for 3 days. On the seventh day (D7), When the results of the 22 patients (excluding 4 withdrawn patients) of CQ and 26 patients of AL came out, it was discovered that 19(86.4%) patients of CQ group and (20)76.9% of AL group were free of parasitaemia while 3 (13.6%) patients of CQ and 6(23.1%) patients of AL group suffered resistance and treatment failure. On this same day (D7), the mean body temperature of the patients crashed from 38.2°c to 37°c for CQ treatment group and 38.5°c to 37°c for AL treatment group respectively. On the D28, more parasitaemia were cleared, given an impressive results of cure rate for CQ patients and AL patients to be 19(86.4%) and 24(92.3%) respectively. The side effects of the two drugs collated from the questionnaires shown that under CQ treatment group, 3(13.6%) patients, 7(31.8%) patients, 1(4.5%) patients, 6(27.3%) patients and 6(27.3%) patients suffered from vomiting, itching, headache, weakness of the body and abdominal pain respectively while only 2(7.7%) patients, 3(11.5%) patients, 7(26.9%) patients suffered from vomiting, headache and weakness of the body respectively under AL treatment group, showing that AL has less side effects than CQ.But the two drugs are tolerable and safe in children due to their mild side effects
